InnerSense Formed in 2006, InnerSense is a registered charity providing multi-sensory creative arts workshops for people with a wide range of learning disabilities across the spectrum, including moderate, severe, profound and multiple disability. Many of our clients have additional sensory and physical impairments and/or challenging behaviour making interacting and communicating very difficult. Their artist team have over 20 years experience working in arts and disability. In their workshops people who rarely speak are inspired to sing, those who rarely move to dance and those who are trapped in their own worlds to explore another imaginative world where communication becomes a possibility. They can offer taster sessions, inset days and training days as well as advisory sessions for other organisations working in this field in areas such as cross-curricular development, sourcing of props and instruments and creating ‘multi-sensory environments’ Their aim is to run 3 x ten week terms over a year and as the work is developmental encourage regular attendance for at least a term. Each workshop lasts an hour and costs £15 per person per session - this rate is highly subsidised by their ongoing fundraising initiatives. Each week you will enter an imaginitively themed theatrical environment filled with wonderful props, instruments and resources. Previous themes include; The Bakery, Inside the Whale, Spice Market, Under the Sea. Workshops are tailored to the clients’ individual needs and supported by three highly skilled and experienced artists. They aim to keep group size to around 8 people, though this depends on the needs of individuals within the group. Support staff are welcome to participate free of charge. If you would like to arrange a visit, book sessions or just have a chat please e-mail: innersensearts@googlemail.com or call 01344 428141.
